HERAULT

The source of the River HERAULT is at the top of Mont Aigoual, a wonderful viewpoint in the Cévennes.
The river flows through semi-mountainous country, creating magnificent beaches of fine sand and pebbles.

LE MOULIN is situated on the banks of the Hérault, alongside the D 986 between Ganges and St-Bauzille-de-Putois, a village that is home to the famous Grotte des Demoiselles.

Rent a canoe or kayak and explore the Hérault gorge as it wanders through the historic Cévennes.
You may see the beautiful grey heron, black kites and kingfishers, or you might see a gold-prospector going quietly about his work.
Yes indeed, the Hérault has gold in it and had its glory days in the early 20th Century.
Why not think about exploring the river in a canoe or kayak, under the southern sun? A great idea for two or more people. The valley has plenty of friendly, quality accommodation (gites, hotels and good restaurants...).

We have been teaching outdoor activities in the Valley since 1975, and moved to LE MOULIN in 1988.

The CANOE and KAYAK equipment, including lifejackets, is unsinkable according to European standards (lifejackets and wet-suits are cleaned and disinfected after each outing).
Your return is assured by way of a mini bus or a coach, at the time of your choice.
Canoë Le Moulin offers private parking and toilets.

Routes to suit everyone

Main departure point: Le Moulin, Saint Bauzille en Putois.
Secondary departure point: Laroque.
Our routes take us through limestone gorges, where water quality is excellent.
You will find a number of fine, sandy beaches where you can relax with family and friends. Ideal for a swim or a picnic.
The gorges are listed, and we are sure you will be astonished by the beauty of the setting.

3 km

On this short route, starting from the medieval village of Laroque, you will enjoys the best rapids in Hérault.
Depending on the time of year and the water level, it can be quite challenging.
Not for families with small children. About an hour, plus stops.

9 km

Family route, about 2 hours' canoeing plus stops.

12 km

About 3 hours, plus stops.
This is a combination of the 3 and 9 km routes.

14 km

Family route, about 3 hours' canoeing plus stops.

17 km

About 4 hours, plus stops.
This is a combination of all the routes and is suitable for families as well as providing a challenge.
