Le Chassezac comporte un bon nombre de barrages hydroélectriques en amont. Son cours est donc régulé. Cela n'empêche pas cette rivière d'avoir des crues parmi les plus spectaculaires d'Ardèche, mais leurs arrivées sont temporisées par les barrages. Plusieurs jours de pluie sont souvent nécessaires à l'arrivée d'une crue, pas de panique ! En été, le Chassezac est régulé juillet et août, sa navigation est agréable avec un débit suffisant (2m3/sec) pour passer tous les rapides et permettre de garder une bonne qualité d'eau pour la baignade. Au printemps et à l'automne la priorité est de produire de l'électricité. Le débit varie entre 1m3/sec pas de production (le week-end) et 9 à 27m3/sec suivant production. Q: Do you have to know how to swim?

Comme dans de nombreux départements, en Ardèche pour louer une embarcation et naviguer sur les cours d'eau il faut savoir nager au moins 25 mètres et s'immerger, et avoir plus de sept ans. Un moniteur peut aussi vous accompagner.

Q: Can we stop anywhere in the gorge?

Oui d'autant plus que le canoë est le seul moyen de pique-nique dans les gorges. À vous de trouver votre coin de paradis pour le pique-nique ou la baignade. Attention : si la rivière est publique, les berges sont privées. De tradition les Ardèchois vous accueillent sur leur terre avec plaisir, prenez-en soin !

Yes, as long as you have a fishing card (on sale in Les Vans).

Q: Where am I going to park my car or motorcycle?

Vous pourrez vous garer au départ sur notre base de La Molette où nous sommes présents sans interruption de 8h à 21h. Un vestiaire et des casiers à disposition pour les motards et cyclistes. Les places à l'ombre sont réservées aux premiers arrivés ! Notre parking privé autos, motos et vélos est équipé de 2 bornes de recharge pour voiture électrique (et vélo).

The Chassezac is the ideal river for relaxation and "farniente".

Descending from the canyons of Lozère, this main tributary of theArdèche winds through a vast valley before entering magnificent gorges to cross the limestone massif of the Bois de Païolive over 10 kilometers. It then flows through the plain before joining its illustrious neighbor theArdèche.

Canoe rental rates Kayak on the Chassezac : free descents and water level

In the heart of the Chassezac gorges, two routes are offered to you, 7 and 10 kilometers determined by the only possibilities to leave the gorges.

The time you spend on the water is free. So you choose the rhythm of your navigation.

Example with the course La Molette > Mazet of 7 km :

Departure 10am, arrival 12:30pm in Mazet = 1/2h of pose.
Departure 10am, arrival 4pm in Mazet = 2 hours of sailing, 2 one-hour swimming breaks, one hour for a picnic and one hour of strolling or sunbathing.

On departure we offer you a choice of many return times, and on arrival we take you back by minibus. This is an opportunity to enjoy the driver's comments as you pass through the picturesque sites.

Do you have to know how to swim?

As in many departments, in Ardèche to rent a boat and navigate on the rivers you must be able to swim at least 25 meters and immerse yourself, and be over seven years old.
An instructor can also accompany you.

Can we stop anywhere in the gorge?

Yes, especially since canoeing is the only way to picnic in the gorges.
It's up to you to find your own corner of paradise for picnics or swimming.
Beware: if the river is public, the banks are private. The Ardèchois traditionally welcome you to their land with pleasure, so take care of it!

Can we fear thunderstorms, rising waters or lack of water?

The Chassezac has a good number of hydroelectric dams upstream. Its course is therefore regulated. This does not prevent this river from having some of the most spectacular floods ofArdèche, but their arrival is delayed by the dams. Several days of rain are often necessary for the arrival of a flood, don't panic!
In summer, the Chassezac is regulated in July and August, its navigation is pleasant with a sufficient flow (2m3/sec) to pass all the rapids and to keep a good quality of water for swimming.
In spring and autumn the priority is to produce electricity. The flow varies between 1m3/sec no production (on weekends) and 9 to 27m3/sec according to production. No regulation, contact us.

Yes, provided you have a fishing card (on sale at Les Vans).

Where am I going to park my car or motorcycle?

You will be able to park at the start of the event at our base in La Molette where we are present without interruption from 8am to 9pm.
A checkroom and lockers are available for bikers and cyclists.
Places in the shade are reserved for the first to arrive!
Our private car, motorcycle and bicycle parking is equipped with 2 recharging points for electric cars (and bicycles).
