    A calm and peaceful route. A very wild section of the river where nature reigns supreme. Ideal for beginners or for a pleasant family outing. 2 km before the finish, a stunning view of St. Ilpize Castle.

    A fairly fast-paced route, accessible to all, children from 6 years old. A dam slide (Le Chambon), numerous spots for breaks and swimming.
    Sights to see along the river: the cliffs of Blot, the perched village of Chilhac and its basalt columns, the loop around the Lavoute-Chilhac peninsula with views of the priory and its walls.

    The first 8 km are quite challenging, then calmer before the final descent over the Langeac dam.
    Suitable for ages 6 and up.
    Points of interest along the river include the chapel of Ste Marie des Chazes and the village and abbey of Chanteuges.

    Departure: meet at 9am at our base in Lavoûte-Chilhac

    The route is quite challenging at the beginning and not recommended for children under 9 due to its length. It includes two natural dam slides (Langeac and Le Chambon) and numerous beaches for breaks and swimming.
    Sights along the river include: the Chapel of Sainte Marie des Chazes, the village and abbey of Chanteuges, the Blot cliff, the hilltop village of Chilhac, and the peninsula and priory grounds of Lavoute-Chilhac.

Whitewater Canoeing + Rafting Day Trip

TheAllier is one of the few rivers in France where you can allier the thrill of rafting through the gorges with the pleasure of canoeing.
Our whitewater day trip program allows you to experience both. Raft down the Allier in the morning between Monistrol d'Allier and Prades (12 km), then enjoy a self-guided canoe or kayak trip in the afternoon at your own pace between Le Pradel and Langeac (15 km).

    Two welcome centers, Lavoûte-Chilhac and Chilhac, offering canoe and kayak rentals for trips of 5 to 32 km, from short excursions to full-day trips. Two- to six-day hikes are also available, including a 12 km rafting trip through the gorges. Opening hours: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, April to October
